Sustainability has been part of Living Wall Concepts from the beginning.
Living Wall Concepts Ltd. was founded in Ontario in 2004 with the belief that living walls could be designed differently.
A different approach, from the start
At the time, many living wall systems depended on significant mechanical infrastructure, including pumps, electrical components, permanent plumbing and drainage.
LWC set out to develop a simpler, more sustainable approach that could deliver the benefits of living plants within the built environment while reducing the infrastructure and resources required to support them.
More than two decades later, environmental responsibility continues to influence how we design our systems, select our materials, manufacture our products and operate our company.
By eliminating ALL of the mechanical infrastructure traditionally associated with living walls, we have created a system that is simpler to operate and maintain while reducing ongoing energy requirements.
Our plant containers are manufactured from 100% recycled material derived from recycled vehicle tires and recycled water bottles.
Using recycled material rather than virgin material is an intentional part of our approach to product design and manufacturing.
Maintaining an Ontario-based supply chain supports local businesses and manufacturing while reducing our dependence on international sourcing for our system products.
As an Ontario-based Canadian company, we believe there is value in designing, manufacturing and supporting our products as close to home as practical
Across more than 20 years of LWC living wall installations, we have experienced no known system failures. Living plants naturally change and occasionally require replacement, but the underlying living wall system is designed to remain in service.
Plants removed through our professional maintenance and warranty programs are composted rather than disposed of as general waste.
Living Wall Concepts continually invests in research and development to improve the sustainability, reliability and performance of our living wall technology.
LWC is committed to reinvesting all company surplus toward advancing our environmental and social purpose, including investments in research and development, sustainability initiatives, product improvements, manufacturing equipment and capabilities, employee development, and the continued advancement of our proprietary living wall technology.
We believe environmental improvement is an ongoing process, and we intend to continue developing better ways of bringing living plants into commercial environments.

We have also provided reduced maintenance fees to nonprofit organizations to help make the long-term professional care of their living walls more financially accessible. We intend to continue supporting community, educational, healthcare and nonprofit organizations where our products, expertise and services can provide meaningful benefit.

Environmental sustainability was a founding principle of Living Wall Concepts, and we intend for that purpose to continue beyond the company’s current ownership and management.
